yeah after so many years of good squads and being in contention, we're probably still at the start of our rebuild cycle.
maybe I should write to Goodell, Manfred, Silver, and Bettman to pitch them on the merits of the DPL.
DPL? They call it The Tank for a reason.

The Sharks can't tank to extremes because they know the market has too much competition for the entertainment dollar.
They have to at least try and put out a somewhat entertaining product, and if they lose, well they lose but they at least need to compete hard.
(no 60-50-50 type FA pickups on all 4 forward lines)
DPL achieves the same goal, just through slightly different means. Pro sports currency is actual cash, Weaver currency is draft picks/assets.

The Sharks needed to start their rebuild a few years ago but kept things together with duct tape because of that mentality of needing to stay competitive in the Bay Area marketplace. It still got the mail to the same place. Like Eric said, the Tank is looking like an A’s game these days and it’s not going to get better anytime soon. The NHL is much more dependent on gate revenue than other leagues as well.
Unpopular opinion but I think the Sharks would have been much better off to recognize what they had a few years ago and start the rebuild at an appropriate time rather than get stuck in what looks like a dangerous extended period of fan apathy that they’re in now.
